When civilization becomes more than a phrase and religion reaches greater maturity, it will be realized that the sense and practice of kinship between all living beings is the soul of morality: such is the thesis here advanced in further expression of views long ago championed by the writer in his books, Animals’ Rights and The Logic of Vegetarianism. Among the current practices which Mr. Salt finds ethically indefensible are, along with numerous forms of economic exploitation, war, corporal and capital punishment, blood-sports, hunting, vivisection, and flesh-eating.
