THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT and testamentary appointment of me, CATHERINE LEIGH SALT of Crockham Hill, Edenbridge, Kent, wife of Henry Shakespear Stephens Salt. I appoint my said husband and Charles Robert Rivington of 1 Fenchurch Buildings in the City of London EXECUTORS and trustees of this my will.
In pursuance of the power given to me by my marriage settlement dated the twentieth day of December one thousand eight hundred and seventy nine, I appoint and direct that from and after my decease all the property subject to the trusts of the said settlement over which I have or shall have a power of appointment shall be transferred unto the executors and trustees of this my will to be dealt with by them as part of my personal estate.
I bequeath to my adopted daughter Helen Pogosky the sum of one thousand pounds free from legacy duty and I authorise and recommend my executors to invest the said sum of one thousand pounds in the purchase in their names of an annuity for the life and benefit of the said Helen Pogosky or otherwise apply the same for her benefit as my executors and trustees shall in their uncontrolled discretion think fit.
And I bequeath to the said Charles Robert Rivington the sum of one hundred pounds free of legacy duty if he shall act as such executor.
And all the residue and remainder of my property whatsoever and wheresoever I give and bequeath unto my said husband for his own use absolutely; but if my said husband shall predecease me then I direct my executor to deliver all my personal effects not being papers or books to the said Helen Pogosky and to pay the legacy duty thereon and on a further sum of two thousand pounds which in that event only I bequeath to her in addition to the sum of one thousand pounds before mentioned and which further sum is also to be invested in the purchase of an annuity for her life and benefit or otherwise to be applied for her benefit as my executors and trustees shall think fit.
And in the event of the death of my said husband in my lifetime I also direct my executors or executor to pay the following legacies that is to say
- To the treasurer of the Humanitarian League of 53 Chancery Lane London three thousand pounds for the general purposes of the League
- To Edward Carpenter of Millthorpe Holmesfield near Sheffield one thousand pounds
- To Miss Mary Peddle of 5 Oxford and Cambridge Mansions London five hundred pounds
- And to each of the following persons the sum of one hundred pounds in memory of my husband and myself namely:
- George Adams of Croft Lane Norton near Baldock

- Joseph Collinson a member of the committee of the Humanitarian League
- Mrs Katie Waterman (nee Wilkinson) formerly of 126 High Street Eton and now of 57 Pathfield Road Streatham
And to pay transfer and deliver the remainder of my residuary estate to my brother Herman Joynes of 71 Montpelier Road Brighton.
And I declare the said Charles Robert Rivington may act as Solicitor in the administration of my estate and be paid thereout his professional and other charges notwithstanding he is herein named an executor and trustee. And I revoke all former wills.
